The House

Downstairs there is a kitchen/living room.

The kitchen has a gas hob, small fridge, and gas water heater and there is a wood burning stove in the living room.

Upstairs are two double bedrooms and a bathroom with hot shower.

Outside there is a semi-shaded courtyard with table and chairs, hammocks and a BBQ. (I will come regularly to water the plants in the courtyard.)

There is a pinewood just before the house which is great to escape the sun.

Villetelle is part of an ancient  “mas” (a farmhouse in the middle of a wine estate). The other part of the building is un-renovated so there are no next door neighbours. However the other side of this pinewood we have land with a cabin where we often stay in summer and there we have a small “above the ground” swimming pool which you are welcome to use by arrangement.

Electricity and Water

Being solar powered please be aware of not leaving lights on when not needed. Water is delivered weekly and pumped into a 1000 litre container in the attic. This then serves the bathroom (shower and toilet) and the kitchen. As the water supply is limited, we ask you to use it with moderation.

When you arrive we will explain all the details about the house and someone will always be available in case you need anything.

Gignac is less than five minutes away with a very good market on Saturdays. There is also a good supermarket, petrol stations, small village shops, a laundrette and several restaurants. Gignac has a very good tourist office which is worth visiting as there are many local festivals, concerts and other events in the summer not to be missed

Auberge Pélican

From Villetelle you can see the Auberge Pélican. It’s one of my favourite places to eat and during the summer. Every Monday from 18.30–20.00 they invite you to taste (free of charge) local wines from this area. This is a great way to discover some of the very fine wines being produced in the area and to chat with the producers in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with no pressure to buy.

It’s worth booking a table at the Pélican for delicious, good value, home cooking with local produce and their own wines. (Make sure to book in advance 0467576892, Isabelle speaks English.)

In summer her sister Louise stays with her and offers wonderful massages to really help you relax during your holiday!

There is lots of information in the house about the numerous other places to visit like the mediaeval village of St Guilhem-le-Désert (above) in the Gorges de l’Hérault, St Jean-de-Buèges, Lac du Salagou where you can hire sailboats, Pézenas, renowned for its antiques and Montpellier with its lively centre, rich in history. There are several spots on the Hérault river where you can hire canoes and spend a day rowing down river (from 4 to 14 km) stopping for a picnic and dipping in the water on the way (you  will need to book the day before).
